Timing in Tarot Cards
One of the questions I am frequently asked is about TIMING of events and how to gauge this from Tarot cards. It is a very difficult question to answer because our lives and life events are not fixed.
It is often said that things happen “in their own good time” or that events have a “divine timing” and sometimes it seems that events occur totally in their own way and own time.
It depends on your viewpoint as to whether you feel that there is a “Divine Force” that is controlling the timing of events or whether we, as humans, can control timing.
Most people have, at some point in their lives, tried to control events and to force something to happen, in a particular way and in a specific timeframe. Sometimes this works for people, however very often it does not work as planned or desired.
In my early days of reading Tarot cards, I used to offer a six month reading and each layer of the spread represented a month. I did that until I did a reading for a lady, who was going through a very messy divorce. I gave her a sequence of events for the following six months and was very surprised when she phoned me up about 3 weeks later and told me that the whole lot had happened in the space of about two weeks.
I believe that the reason for that speed of events was due to a change in her own energy. She had seen that things were moving forward in her favour and this had given her the confidence to take a more pro-active, assertive approach, which had resulted in the matter being solved in two weeks instead of 6 months.
When people ask questions about timing, there is often an underlying assumption that “things are fixed” and events are going to happen anyway and there is not much anyone can do about it.
This attitude is clearly seen in questions such as “when will I get married?” “will I change jobs?” “how many children will I have?” “when will I move house?”
The answers to questions about timing are often determined by the actions that someone takes or does not take in relation to the matter. If, for example, someone asks “when will I change jobs?” I would want to know whether they have actively taken any action towards changing jobs. If not, then I would look to see if there is anything around their work that is likely to force a change. If not, then it is likely that their work situation will stay the same until they do something to change it.
The answer to many questions of “when will something happen?” is often as vague as “when you are ready to let it happen” or “when you take action on it.”
Questions of timing can also appear when someone desperately wants something to happen, but the outcome may be determined by someone else. This is frequently seen when a person is in a love-triangle relationship with someone but that person is still married to someone else. Your client will often desperately want the cards to tell them that the love of their life is going to leave their marriage and it is going to be soon.
No matter how they phrase the question, they unlikely to get the answer they desire because the timing of that wish, if it is going to happen at all, is determined by the decisions and actions of the other person.
Sometimes people will ask “when will something happen?” questions when they are in the middle of a situation and they want to see how things are unfolding or when a specific event is going to occur or not.
This can sometimes be easier to see, as the cards may indicate an ease or flow of activity or things moving forward rapidly and favourably for someone. There may be a lot of wands cards, particularly the 8 of Wands or favourable cards such as the 10 of Cups or 6 of Wands or maybe The Star Card or the World Card. This might indicate a favourable outcome is imminent.
There is a strong surge of positive energy within the cards.
You can also see whether things seem to be stuck and not moving forward, which may be down to the person themselves or external factors. The person may not be ready to make a decision and to move forward. As a reader, you can often see why a particular event is not moving forward and what your client may be able to do about it. Sometimes this can be a change of attitude or a different decision or a different approach on the part of your client that can make a huge difference.
I have frequently seen this situation with positive opportunities, which are trying to come to a person but nothing is happening because the person is not open to receive them.
The timing of events is frequently determined by the energy of your client. Change can happen in an instant and trying to put a specific time on something can sometimes be counter-productive. If your client desires for something to happen, they probably want that outcome NOW rather than in a few weeks or a few months, so it may be helpful for them to look at their own beliefs and attitudes, to see what blockages they may need to remove in order to draw in their desired outcome.
When someone asks you, as a Tarot Reader, about timing, it might be useful to find out whether they have the approach of “It’s all mapped out and there is nothing I can do about it” or “ I can create the timing of events in my life” and tailor your reading accordingly.
